The song was officially released to Christian radio somewhere around December 1, 2006, but could be heard on radio as early as November 24. This song can be heard on Gotee Records website as of November 28. The band also made the song available via their MySpace on December 1, 2006. This song is not a mainstream single, and will therefore not be getting a music video like "Must Have Done Something Right", which will be shot December 2006.

Download Relient K - Forgiven (2007)

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2807176448916260545.post-19529727275904910972006-12-06T01:20:00.000-08:002006-12-13T02:20:49.882-08:00P.O.D. - Greatest hits: the atlantic years (2006)Artist: P.O.D.
Album: Greatest hits: the atlantic years
Format: Audio CD MP3
Bitrate: ??? kbps

Track Listing:
1. They dominated MTV, began to tour arenas, and sold over three million copies of that breakthrough album. We thought part of the reason for their success was a post-9/11 world ready for something different, something uplifting, something with a purpose. It turns out the foursome's popularity only decayed after that, with 2003's Payable on Death and 2006's Testify selling merely a fraction of their predecessor.

Now P.O.D. are free agents again—they're reportedly on the verge of announcing a new label partnership—but Atlantic Records was nice enough to compile a sendoff. Greatest Hits: The Atlantic Years recapitulates the band's days at the major label properly, paying attention to each of their four releases in relation to their own relevance and commercial impact.

There are three songs from their striking 1999 debut The Fundamental Elements of Southtown ("Southtown," "Rock the Party," "Set Your Eyes to Zion"), four from the smash Satellite ("Boom," "Alive," "Youth of the Nation," "Satellite"), only two from the embattled Payable on Death ("Will You," "Execute the Sounds"), and three from the return-to-form Testify ("Goodbye for Now," "Roots in Stereo," "Lights Out"). It's a well-rounded set, not exhaustively conclusive, but appropriate nonetheless.

As for exclusives, the only previously unreleased tracks are "Going in Blind" and "Here We Go"—neither is anything much to write home about, but both would've belonged swimmingly in the Testify sessions (the latter is actually a leftover from those sessions). Round that off with "Sleeping Awake" (from the Matrix: Reloaded soundtrack), "Truly Amazing" (from The Passion of The Christ: Songs), and a so-so essay by Mark Joseph (Faith, God & Rock 'n' Roll) in the liner notes, and you have the perfect anthology for the casual fan … not to mention a must-have Warrior keepsake.

Download P.O.D. - Greatest hits: the atlantic years (2006)

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2807176448916260545.post-9445116953438145292006-12-05T23:02:00.000-08:002006-12-11T07:03:36.875-08:00Phanatik - The Incredible Walk (Cross Movement) (2005)
Artist: Phanatik
Album: The Incredible Walk (Cross Movement)
Format: Audio CD MP3
Bitrate: ??? kbps

Track Listing:
1. B Side
2. Psych Check
3. Call Shabach (Interlude)
4. Me?
5. Shot Clock (Brand New Day)
6. The AmazinGrace
7. Odd Job
8. Press On
9. The Incredible Walk
10. Hip-Hop Music
11. Dirge Defined
12. Dirgy Dancing
13. Flood Waters (Interlude)
14. Grieved Again
15. Come Home
16. In Here
17. R & R
18. Hope in the Streetz

Album Review

Phanatik says The Incredible Walk is a play on words on the The Incredible Hulk. While you won't find any references to Dr. Bruce Banner and his oversized green persona other than in the cover art, the rapper does an admirable job of setting the main premise of Romans 7 — the conflict between the sinful nature of man and the perfect nature of God — against a street-smart backdrop.

While his lyrical style varies from syllabic and easy-to-understand to rapid-fire and metaphorical ("Psych Check" gives you a small sampling of the versatility of his flow), Phanatik for the most part keeps things straightforward and Christ-centered, but never clichd or forceful. The rapper's obvious forte is his sharp-toothed wordplay, a quality that the confident title track or the dizzying "The AmazinGrace" accentuate clearly.

Rhythmically, this Walk is less banger-heavy than your typical CM album, though some tracks will still liven up the dance floor with on-point resonance ("Dirgy Dancing"). But the emcee is equally adept at gliding atop the smoother ("Shot Clock"), more minimalist ("Press On"), or more underground material ("Me?"), getting progressively darker and more conversational as the album draws to a close. It's a trip well worth taking, courtesy of one of the more theological names in Christian hip-hop.

Download Phanatik - The Incredible Walk (Cross Movement) (2005)

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2807176448916260545.post-8083820767726950802006-12-04T09:32:00.000-08:002006-12-04T09:41:58.488-08:00Youth Alive - All Of The Above (2006)
Artist: Youth Alive WA
Album: All Of The Above
Format: Audio CD MP3
Bitrate: ??? kbps

Track Listing:

"Can't Live A Day" (words and music by Matt Garner and Chad Blondel)

"Crazy" (words and music by Matt Garner)

"All of the Above" (words and music by Ben Blondel)

"No God Like Mine" (words and music by Chad Blondel)

"God of Miracles" (words and music by Matt Garner)

"Spirit of the Lord" (words and music by Matt Garner)

"Hungry for More" (words and music by Matt Garner)

"It is You" (words and music by Matt Garner)

"All I Am" (words and music by Chad Blondel)

"Shout Your Glory" (words and music by Chad Blondel)

"Sweetness/Can't Live a Day (reprise)" (words and music by Jim Adkins (Sweetness), Matt Garner and Chad Blondel (Can't Live a Day))

"Fall at Your Feet" (words and music by Ryan Armstrong)

"Tell The World (remix)" (words and music by Jone Vasu, Chad Blondel, Jonathan Douglas, Joel Houston and Marty Sampson)

Album Review

Just got it yesterday having picked up their previous record while in Aus last year.
More fresh praise and worship from across the ditch, aimed at teens and twenties and utilised in the popular Youth Alive events over in Aus.

Musically there is obviously an influence from Planetshakers and Hillsong (Henry Seeley and Reuben Morgan have been key figures in youth alive music for a while), bu there is a fesh element that stems from coming from over Perth way... and a warmer embrace of hip hop and r& as well as the rock flavour.

Like last time they used one secular song that then melds into one of their praise tunes... using Sweetness from Jimmy Eat World is cool, although I might be a bit biased. This month, the band that was nominated for two Grammy Awards and won two Dove Awards, releases their newest project. Since their last studio project, This Generation, released in 2005, Sonicflood has been traveling worldwide to reach all generations to issue a call to rise up and share your faith, performing concerts in Australia, Brazil, India, Ireland, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, Bahamas, Thailand and Turkey. As they toured, they recorded -- in both audio and video -- and the result is Glimpse: Live Recordings from Around the World.

"Its time for God's people to know that they are a part of something so huge and so wonderful and that right now we have brothers and sisters on the other side of the planet that love us and are praying for us," explains frontman Rick Heil. "When we went overseas this summer we had a chance to record the sounds of every crowd we worshiped with, and then blended them together to create a symphony of praise... it's beautiful! On top of sonically recording the concerts, we brought along an HD camera to capture the sights of putting this kind of extensive project together."

The concerts feature rock solid performances and are heavy on audience participation, as Heil pulls choruses from the masses for "Open the Eyes of My Heart", "You Are", and "I Want to Know You", achieving a surprisingly masterful aesthetic. It's always amazing how a group of a thousand or more people, perhaps none of which can sing well individually, can almost always pull off something beautiful when acting in concert with each other.

Beyond the nine tracks of live performances (blended together nearly seamlessly, so as to appear to be one concert instead of many), the album boasts two brand new studio tracks: "Infinite Love" and "Save Me" (a title that's getting used a lot of late by bands like Remy Zero and Maxeen.) Both songs are softer than the usual fare Sonicflood produces, with the former being more balladic than the latter, which does hammer a bit harder on the guitars during the chorus. The set also includes a bonus DVD, featuring the making of Glimpse as well as two music videos for "Everlasting" and "This Generation."

Capping off the CD is an unlisted bonus track, that fades in from the silence, continues for a little while, then slowly fades out again. Take from a live performance, the track is a snippet of the a cappella chorus of "I Want To Know You", as sung in Thai.

Many concert albums capture the audio of the event, but very few capture the essence of the experience as has Glimpse. As the album progresses, you can actually feel the spirit of the worship exude from the music. More got recorded onto this disc than mere soundwaves.

"What we see now is but a glimpse," says Heil of the group's mission touring with the International Missions Board as they begin the North American leg of travelling. "But soon we will see face to face. Worship takes us to greater and greater revelation and my prayer is that God would increase our expectation so that we might see His wonders as we worship Him with all our hearts!"

Reviews from The-trades.com

Download Sonicflood - Glimpse

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2807176448916260545.post-20913704734290633502006-11-24T05:27:00.000-08:002006-11-25T15:21:19.506-08:00Jeremy Camp - Beyond Mesure (2006)Artist: Jeremy Camp
Album: Beyond Mesure
Format: Audio CD MP3
Bitrate: 256 kbps

Track Listing:
01. His new album, Beyond Measure shows the restoration even more clearly. It is full of hope and contentment, and overflowing thankfulness. Camp says, “This album shows even more what God has done in my life than Restored. It’s a little more personal to me, more like Stay, but musically and vocally it is leaps and bounds above both. This album is so diverse, but in such a good way. It’s ME. Period.”

Camp has released two singles to radio simultaneously, and this duo opens the record. Just as Stay and Restored featured their own quasi-hard-rock song, Beyond Measure’s rock gem is Tonight. The second single, What It Means, is beautiful alt-rock song, asking Jesus to show us how to live as a sacrifice.

The title track introduces the piano, an instrument that has not been previously used in Camp’s palette. Beyond Measure is a poignant and intensely personal ballad. It is listened to almost as a story book of Camp’s life: a story of loss, faith and grace. Let It Fade sounds a lot like most of the tracks on Restored, but it’s not bad having some continuity with the past.

Feels Like ventures into some new vocal territory, with increased falsetto during the chorus. While it is different, it suits the song, and Camp pulls it off to perfection. An ethereal track, When You Are Near is accompanied by a synth and special effects, and some more falsetto is featured.

Tucked in the middle of the album is No Matter What, another rock song. Featuring the lyrics “No matter what it takes I will offer everything I am. Even unto death I will follow,” it is certainly a bold declaration, and a standout track. Take A Little Time encourages believers to reach outside their comfort zones to impact the world around them: a reference to Camp’s involvement with international child sponsorship organization Compassion.

The lyrics of I Am Nothing are based on John 15:5, where Jesus says, “apart from me you can do nothing.” Camp, backed by soft strings sings, “I am nothing without your love. I’m completed by your touch.”

Give You Glory is Camp’s first bona-fide “worship song.” Though all his songs come from a real place of worship, Give You Glory is the first in the worship genre. The lyrics are vertically-directed, proclaiming the Glory of Jesus.

The album concludes with Give Me Jesus, a heartfelt plea for more of Jesus. Backed with only his acoustic guitar, Camp’s strong vocal capabilities shine. The song builds as his wife’s vocals, followed by a cello, are added to the mix. Give Me Jesus is a traditional African-American song, originally recorded by Fernando Ortega, and Camp gives it a noteworthy remake.

Numerous critics complained that his third record, Restored, was unoriginal and showed little musical growth. This is certainly not the case with Beyond Measure, and Camp’s maturation is evident in both the musical styles and the instrument arrangements. Beyond Measure is an uplifting album that will appeal to any previous fans of Camp’s work and those looking for transparent songwriting.

Download Jeremy Camp - Beyond Mesure

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2807176448916260545.post-78355690270251406232006-11-15T00:19:00.000-08:002006-11-25T15:22:23.578-08:00Disciple - Scars Remain (2006)Artist: Disciple
Album: Scars Remain
Format: Audio CD MP3
Bitrate: ??? kbps

Track Listing:
1. We feel that our songs are more than just music – we've seen them have a positive impact on people's lives. As a band, we feel like we have had the opportunity to do more and be a part of more than we ever dreamed. We are thankful for that. But we feel like we have so much more to give. Things have fallen into place for us. We've got the right team around us for the first time in our careers and we think we've made the right music. Again, I feel like we are just getting started.”
I remember reading in HM Magazine that their reviewer said in reference to their last album, "If this isn't the most successful album of Disciple's career, this reviewer will eat a bug." Well, I sure hope that the HM writer likes bugs because we at WMP will eat a dozen bugs if this doesn't become the most successful album of Disciple's career as of now! Let me be the first to say, this latest release from Disciple has brought me back as a diehard fan. As soon as the album kicks in with "Regime Change" you cant help notice the ferocious onslaught and chugging effects of the guitars and intensity behind the first track. The song is a clear showing that the band is back and in full metal focus with great guitar breakouts and drumming that pounds you in the chest. Disciple's last album didn't show or invoke any passion but this album does it enough to make up for it. The title track and my favorite track on the album, "Scars Remain", shows the intensity of this band with a passionate track that has their matured musicianship with their old school flair at the center. This track shows the modern feel of this band with amazing hardcore breakouts that I have not heard from Disciple yet. This album is raw metal and it is great to hear the original focus of this band on tracks like "Game On." "Someone" is an amazing track with a rawness during the verse that holds you into the track. The track shows a brutal intro filled with that same style in and out. The album is complex and diverse with compassionate ballads like "No End At All", even an acoustic influenced track on "After the World", with a the highlight being the true metal focus of Disciple. "After the World" may be one of the most mature songs I have ever heard from Disciple. Scars Remain is bringing Disciple back to what they were meant to do...tear your ear drums apart and rip open your heart!Lyrically was one of my biggest complaints on their last album. I felt the tracks were watered down and lost their intensity and focus. Well, scratch that off because this album brings not only the musicianship of this band back, but it does the same with the lyrical content and focus. This album gets real about people's pasts and embraces the loving grace of Jesus to get things right. All the songs on this album deal with real life and our journey to be closer with our spiritual life. Kevin is on top of the game as always and the passion in these tracks make you believe he means 100% of what he sings about.
This will be Disciple's top selling album to date...no questions asked. This album is full of passion and talent from music to vocals to lyrics. It is raw and emotional and you will believe and feel this album from start to finish.

Download Disciple - Scars Remain

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2807176448916260545.post-4106750630667996202006-11-08T12:58:00.000-08:002006-11-15T00:16:47.612-08:00Third Day - Christmas Offerings (2006)Artist: Third Day
Album: Christmas Offerings
Format: Audio CD MP3
Bitrate: ??? kbps

Track Listing:
1. This CD is no exception.

They have previous released two CD's in their "Offerings" series. Both projects have included studio tracks as well as live recordings. This release is no different. The live tracks feature very little talking, but the audience is obviously present. They hold up well to repeated listening.

The first track starts out with strong drums on "O Come All Ye Faithful." Yes, you read that right. Third Day has taken nine familiar Christmas carols and arranged them to fit their Southern Rock style. If this scares you, don't let it. Each song is still instantly recognizable, and I had no problem singing along on the first listen. While it sounds slightly different, it felt like Christmas to me, even in the middle of ninety-degree weather. Of course, part of making it a Third Day song is lead singer Mac Powell's trademark deep voice. I'm not sure what about his voice is so distinctive, but it immediately helps make this CD recognizable as a Third Day release.

"What Child is this?" is easily one of my favorite Christmas carols. Their version is quickly becoming a favorite. It starts with just acoustic guitar, but each verse keeps building until the final chorus. By that point, the full band is playing and it has become a driving rock ballad. I also like the fact that they use a little known verse for their second verse instead of the one we all know and already have recorded a million times.

They do a similar arrangement with "Do You Here What I Hear?" It starts out rockier then "What Child is this?" and it flat out rocks by the final verse. I absolutely love it, as does the live audience.

While they speed up "O Holy Night" slightly (it works well as a rock ballad), they keep "Silent Night" slow. In fact, they have a nice violin intro on that song.

Since I have quite a Christmas music library (I just love the holiday), I always pay special attention to the new songs. Here, there are four of them, none of which are from the City on a Hill Christmas project the band participated in. Three of them are great. "Born in Bethlehem" is a mid-tempo praise song to the Baby Jesus. The second verse moves from Christmas to Good Friday and Easter, something I love to tie together. "Jesus, Light of the World" has a similar theme. "Christmas Like a Child" speaks of the longing to recapture the joy of Christmas. Not the longing for presents, but remembering that the season is ultimately about Jesus.

Which brings us to the final song. "Merry Christmas" is yet another in a long line of potentially depressing Christmas songs. Band member Brad Avery's real life wait to adopt a girl from China inspires it. While the final verse does have a happy resolution, I find the first two verses very sad. I will be skipping this track most of the time, which also means skipping the hidden group sing of "We Wish You a Merry Christmas."

Still, this one track is not enough to ruin the CD overall. By putting their own sound on classic carols, Third Day has created a Christmas Offering I will look forward to listening to year after year.

Download Third Day - Christmas Offerings

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2807176448916260545.post-87318355974347591502006-11-02T00:09:00.000-08:002006-11-02T00:25:31.463-08:00Switchfoot - The Beautiful Letdown (2003)
Artist: Switchfoot
Album: The Beautiful Letdown
Format: Audio CD MP3
Bitrate: ??? kbps

Track Listing:

Meant To Live

This Is Your Life

More Than Fine

Ammunition

Dare You To Move

Redemption

Beautiful Letdown

Gone

On Fire

Adding To The Noise

Twenty-Four

Album Review

Switchfoot has been a force in the Christian music industry ever since their debut The Legend of Chin in 1997. With many acts dumbing down different secular genres, they created their own with much success. Their originality paid off, with mainstream Columbia Records calling to co-release the band's fourth studio album along with longtime partner Sparrow Records. It could have been their four-song addition to the Mandy Moore film A Walk To Remember or it might be that they really are just that good. Now with The Beautiful Letdown, Switchfoot is on pace to break down a barrier that always seems to build back up while assembling a partition around themselves as the only artist to do whatever it is that they do so well.

Leading off are two songs where Switchfoot shows the progression they’ve been making in their musical craftiness. “Meant to Live” comes in as a radio rock powerhouse that should be played and overplayed like any good rock station does while “This Is Your Life” molds techno beats and rock greatness to create the greatest song of the album presenting what new addition Jerome Fontamillas (keys/ guitar), formerly of Mortal fame, has to offer.

Now comes the quirky Switchfoot we all know and love. “More Than Fine” and “Gone” bring happy go lucky hits that the Beach Boys wish they were making back then, where doo whopping wonderment ensues. ”Ammunition” and “Adding to the Noise” add mid-tempo rockers with lyrics of true greatness and meaningful self exploration into the soul. “Redemption” takes a bit of both; rock journeyment and cheerful liveliness while “Dare You to Move” is a slight remake of a song on their junior release Learning to Breathe. “The Beautiful Letdown,” “24,” and “On Fire” slows things down beautifully only adding to the fact that lead singer Jon Foreman is the ballad prince of song.

Switchfoot has never really been anything but a mainstream caliber band, being one of Christian music’s best kept secrets. But now, the gloves are off and like the proud parents we die hard fans are, it’s time to let them go into the world. With The Beautiful Letdown, it’s now time for Switchfoot to take over everyone’s hearts, one soul at a time.

Download Switchfoot - The Beautiful Letdown (part 1)

Download Switchfoot - The Beautiful Letdown (part 2)

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2807176448916260545.post-16428048249929414302006-11-01T23:34:00.000-08:002006-11-02T00:06:47.616-08:00David Crowder Band - A Collision (2005)
Artist: David Crowder Band
Album: A Collision
Format: Audio CD MP3
Bitrate: ??? kbps

Track Listing:
1. Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven (A Walk Down Stairs)
2. Come and Listen
3. Here Is Our King
4. Wholly Yours
5. Foreverandever Etc.
6. (A Quiet Interlude)
7. A Beautiful Collision
8. Soon I Will Be Done with the Troubles of the World
9. Be Lifted or Hope Rising
10. I Saw the Light
11. O God Where Are You Now (In Pickerel Lake? Fans apparently felt that way about Illuminate, the 2003 release that sold more than 200,000 copies and put David Crowder Band on the A-list of Christian music. As for those unimpressed with this popular modern worship band thus far, their minds might well change with A Collision.

An album like this is intimidating to review because it provides so much (73 minutes) to absorb, interpret, and comment on. Supposedly, Illuminate was deeply inspired by the properties of light as an illustration of the relationship between God and man, but the theme generally didn't manifest itself in the songs. Likewise, A Collision has little to do with tangential metaphors pertaining to atomic physics, but it's now clear that these illustrations aren't so much the focus as they are meant to stir ideas in tandem with the worshipful songwriting. This disc's tongue-in-cheek epilogue sums up Crowder's intentions best: he's just trying to make you sing and glorify God.

Nevertheless, the album's title comes from the band's concert sign-off: "Where our depravity meets His divinity it is a beautiful collision." This poetic expression of grace is explored further in "A Beautiful Collision," but I like to think the title is also a reference to the album's musical range—a broad Kingdom perspective that combines modern pop and rock with elements of alternative folk, bluegrass, and even a gospel spiritual. Crowder has divided the album into 4 parts, and each is worth exploring independently.

Part A is preparatory, invocative, and most comparable to what listeners have come to expect from David Crowder Band. It starts unconventionally with a brief, old-sounding cover of Loretta Lynn's "Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven," followed by a sparse piano 'n' strings call to worship, "Come and Listen." But after this prologue, the album really begins with radio single "Here Is Our King," an upbeat modern worship song very much like "O Praise Him," but rendered with more spirit. Ballad "Wholly Yours" gives worshipful wordplay on the title and a smart exhortation on grace: "But the harder I try, the more clearly can I feel the depth of our fall and the weight of it all/And so this might could be the most impossible thing/Your grandness in me making me clean." Then "Foreverandever Etc." concludes the chapter with an impressively produced praise punk rocker akin to "No One Like You."

The band already dazzles with improved sound and arrangements, but Part B demonstrates how much they've grown. Songs here touch on brokenness with Psalm-like uncertainty, prompting the band to mix styles with the emotions. A somber spiritual precedes the dark alt-pop of "Be Lifted/Hope Rising," which evolves into a joyful chorus of bluegrass. This is followed by a more traditional bluegrass cover—fiddles and all—of Hank Williams Sr.'s "I Saw the Light," performed with country great Marty Stuart. Then they cover Sufjan Stevens's melancholic-yet-hopeful "O God Where Are You Now," adapting the folksy sound for alt-pop with a simple-yet-transcendent sing-along chorus.

It's Part C that goes further to prove the band hasn't just broadened their sound, but also evolved it. After effectively setting up a time for reflection with the beautiful "(B Quiet Interlude)," they break into impressive art rock that reveals the influence of co-producer Tedd T. and their former tour-mates in Mute Math. These tracks revolve around becoming a new transformation through Christ, illustrated with "Come Awake," which begins with the EEG of a dying patient, only to awaken with an alarm clock during an awe-inspiring swell, and then concludes with a heartbeat. "Do Not Move" is a harder rocking cornucopia of alternative rock styles, "Our Happy Home" creatively adapts an old 17th century folk hymn to modern worship, and the uncommonly good "You Are My Joy" rivals the soaring Brit-pop of Coldplay's X&Y.

Part D is the least effective, though it provides a celebratory conclusion of encouragement. Like Matt Redman's "Undignified," the band resorts to their familiar penchant for dance rock with "We Win!" designed to pump up concert-goers. The giant arena rock ballad "Rescue Is Coming" is technically the finale, suggesting to the downtrodden that, "It's just enough to believe." The album ends with the aforementioned epilogue, a mock interview set to a Ralph Vaughn Williams composition that unfolds into a brief closing song—very clever, but perhaps not the track listeners will regularly return to.

This is the type of album that makes me go back to the beginning after it ends, because it's so epic, textured, and insightful. Even if it's not your cup of tea, A Collision is unquestionably ambitious and inspired, unlike any modern worship album to this point. If you’re lucky enough to get a copy at their nationwide sold out shows or online, you’re mp3 player and stereo will feel more than privileged. The cover art boasts a band heavily involved in instrumentation, the focus is on their skill, not staring blankly at the camera trying to be poster boys for the next cover of NME. Paul Meany orchestrates the band by tying every sound together with his whisp-laden vocals.

The band has proposed classic moments on such tracks as “Chaos”, “Typical”, and “Noticed” with catchy anthem-like lyrics and electro samples mixed with light rapid drum movements provided by Darren King with the most excellent trademark of duct taping his headphones to his head during performances. "Obsolete" also stands out with an incredible jazz infused hook on the bass that melts in your mouth over and over again. Mute Math make melodies that mean something, make ballad worthy lyrics worth listening to for even the toughest guy or girl in the audience, and provide a unique raw appeal that the industry as a whole has been after for a long time. Mute Math are definitely a band worth watching, and possess music worth repeating to bring more pep to an otherwise stagnant day.

Download Mute Math - Mute Math (Warner Bros Release)

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2807176448916260545.post-44998678091040287552006-10-30T12:13:00.000-08:002006-10-31T12:23:19.110-08:00Newsboys - Go (2006)
Artist: Newsboys
Album: Go
Format: mp3
Bitrate: ??? kbps

Track Listing:
1. One of the most anticipated releases of 2006 has finally been completed, and it’s sure to live up to the hype that’s been revolving around it. Creating one of the best albums of their career and stepping off of the infamous "worship bandwagon," the newsboys dug down deep into their rock roots and even added a little techno to mold their newest release, GO.

The album opens up like their most recent concerts, with the funky sounds of "Wherever We Go." The song proves that only the newsboys can get away with singing about animals partying it up when the band comes to town. Fun and upbeat, "Wherever We Go" is sure to give you the same amount of energy, if not more, than during their live show. Continuing with the "go" theme and introducing a bit of techno into the mix, "Go," recounts the stories of Jesus sending out the disciples. It follows His most used demand, "Go!" and encourages all Christians to live up to their expectations of spreading the Gospel.

The next song continues with the techno tune. "Something Beautiful" compares the love and conversations between God and His children with everyday things, including the feelings we get "when we laugh so hard we cry," and the sight of "the child on a wedding day, the daddy who gives her away." The lyrics get you smiling at the simple comparisons, and the sound will have you tapping your feet unconsciously.

"The Mission" is a retrospective look at some of history's greatest icons and their role in spreading the Gospel. Something like a history lesson is given, elaborating on the fact that the famous words of these icons help connect us to Jesus from more than 2000 years ago. Though times have changed, the mission has stayed the same, and "it’s here." The bell in the background adds an effect to this solid rock song.

Halfway through, GO slows down a bit for "Let it All Come Out" and goes into the U2-like "In Wonder." It dives into the most basic topic of Christianity, the fact that the power of God is completely incomprehensible and unfathomable. The repetitions of lead singer Peter Furler’s words, "such a wonder," get you trying to understand God along with him.

The newsboys bring back the techno sounds again with the most interesting song on the album, "Your Love is Better Than Life." You’ll hear sounds comparable to The Gorillaz, Aqua, and Eiffel 65 throughout the song while Furler’s monotone verses are reminiscent of INXS’ "Mediate." There is something about the feel and innocence of the song that proves that the members of the band aren’t perfect. Admitting that they "don’t know when it’s a ministry or when it’s a show, maybe neither, maybe both" helps bring them down from their pedestal that some Christians are prone to putting them on. The song explains that sometimes they just "don’t know."

The intro to "Secret Kingdom" may sound familiar, as it resembles newsboys’ classic, "Breakfast." Honestly, I can see this song becoming the next classic concert song. It could be the inclusion of whistling, but the chorus is just plain fun. The visuals of Peter’s actions while singing this song remind me of the days of "Take Me To Your Leader" being performed live.

Again slowing up the album, "The Letter (One of a Kind)" might be my favorite song. The chorus is fascinating, mesmerizing almost. The words are smooth and comforting, and it will get you feeling good about yourself – knowing that you are one of a kind, and no one can replace you in the kingdom. It leaves a good taste in your mouth and you’re sure to be singing it all day long.

"Gonna Be Alright" concludes the regular version of GO. Furler’s high-pitched vocals from, most recently, "The Orphan," come to surface again and provide a lullaby-like tune to the song. Though not ending the album with a bang musically, so to speak, the mixture of lyrics and soft sounds are consistent with the rest of the album in that it is comforting, yet powerful.

The studio version of "I Am Free" is also included on the album, and the power of the live version still exists. I’m even going as far as saying that it’s better in the studio than live.

Overall, I agree with drummer Duncan Phillips 100% when he claimed that the band was "bringin’ back the fun." GO has been playing non-stop on my media player and not one song has been skipped over or stopped short. With this album, the newsboys prove that they're still standing strong after 20 years in the music business, and they don’t show signs of slowing down any time soon. If you haven’t already, be sure to pre-order Go today. You won’t be disappointed.

Download Newsboys - Go

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2807176448916260545.post-11647095313336179822006-10-29T11:19:00.000-08:002006-10-31T11:53:43.780-08:00Pillar - The Reckoning (2006)
Artist: Pillar
Album: The Reckoning
Format: mp3
Bitrate: 256 kbps

Track Listing:
1. Chasing Shadows at Midnight

Album Review

It was only a couple of indie projects before Pillar burst onto the Christian rock scene at the perfect time, riding closely on the trendy wave of hardcore nü-metal that P.O.D. helped start in 1999 with The Fundamental Elements of Southtown. Six years later, the Oklahoma quartet's lineup remains intact and continues to draw a strong following in America's heartland through a powerful presence on the rock tour circuit.

But rapcore rock is now considered passé and nü-metal isn't the hot commodity that it was six years ago. Nickelback and Audioslave are still creating a stir . . . Korn and P.O.D. less so. Where does Pillar's sound fit in all of this today, and do they have what it takes musically to carry their message for the long haul?

That's what I'm left to ponder after their fourth full-length project, The Reckoning. Say this much for Pillar—they're smart enough to keep from being confined to a musical fad. 2000's Above bore a strong resemblance to P.O.D., but now the two bands only compare in decibel level. As with 2004's Where Do We Go From Here, Pillar has embraced melodic hardcore with an emo-screamo bent, heard on tracks like "Last Goodbye," "Resolution," and "Chasing Shadows at Midnight." Whether that's good for the band is debatable—it's not a particularly distinctive style and the occasionally whiny vocal from Rob Beckley is less impressive than his deeper growls.

Better are "Awake" and the title track, catering a healthy helping of meat and potatoes hard rock akin to Audioslave and Nickelback, and the more intense hardcore of "Tragedy," reminiscent of Tool and Korn. Here the band sounds more in their element—stronger, more confident. Many will also be surprised by "Sometimes," which resembles a heavier Jimmy Eat World with a kickin' power pop sound that's quite different for Pillar, yet they pull it off and add a new tool to their kit.

Then there are the pop metal ballads, like "Angel in Disguise" and "Wherever the Wind Blows," the sort of fluff you'd expect more from Kutless and Building 429 (or Winger and White Lion). It's at this point you have to wonder whether the range is too broad. I'm mostly glad to see Pillar continually trying to evolve with the times, but there's a fine line between eclecticism and losing focus. It does admittedly help every song gain its own character, but you have to wonder if fans are comfortable with a band that sounds Korn-y one second and toothless the next. Or do they welcome it all as one big monster pop/rock spectrum?

Also of note are the album's lyrical subtleties. You won't find explicit mention of God here, yet there's never a question where Pillar is coming from either. For example, "Wherever the Wind Blows" is clearly inspired by Billy Graham's famous message about feeling and seeing the effects of the wind as a metaphor for God's presence. "Crossfire" is particularly striking, insightfully noting how easy it is to catch heat from not only non-believers, but fellow Christians as well: "I'd rather take a shot in the chest than take a shot in the back/At least I'll see it coming and I'll know where I'm standing at/To get shot down by your own such a crying shame."

"Tragedy" recognizes how we're our own worst enemy through sinful nature and "Chasing Shadows at Midnight" examines our pursuit of meaningless and material things. "Awake" is more hopeful with a dreamful longing for heaven, and "When Tomorrow Comes" leaves the troubles of the past behind by looking toward the future.

But then we have songs like "Resolution," one of those vaguely leave-your-fear-behind encouragements that's generic enough for everyone while ultimately saying nothing: "Don't let the moment pass you/Don't let distractions blind you/Don't let questions stop you/Don't let the answers miss you." Even more frustrating is "Angels in Disguise," with a seemingly self-explanatory title, but an extremely imprecise redemption tale about . . . well, I'm not sure exactly. Does the father abuse his family physically or emotionally? Is the girl the victim or her mother? All that's clear from this story without details is the girl takes action and ultimately forgives daddy.

The Reckoning amounts to a Christian album that's capable of reaching the non-believer, though some of the songs are too abstract for their own good. It's a polished effort from a capable band, yet it never quite settles into a sound that's clearly their own. If there's a pattern to all this, it's that Pillar still feels more like a trend follower than a trend setter, and yet I have to believe the core audience will come away impressed. I'd still like to see this band start a wave of its own.

Download Pillar - The Reckoning

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2807176448916260545.post-28805953187751530942006-10-17T03:22:00.000-07:002006-10-17T04:07:47.621-07:00Jaci Velasquez - On My Knees (2006)Artist: Jaci Velasquez
Album: On My Knees: The Best Of Jaci Velasquez
Format: Audio CD
Bitrate: ??? kbps

Track Listing:
01. Nicole C. Mullen’s “Redeemer,” Jaci Velasquez and “On My Knees,” and Rachael Lampa’s “Blessed.” Individually, each of these leading ladies has had a unique impact on the pop, Latin, and R&B markets. All have been individually successful and through all of the transitions both at Word Records and within the Christian industry itself, the three have held their own.

There is not doubt that each is deserving of a “best of” collection although one often wonders about the motivation behind such a project. In recent history, it either meant another label shakeup or an artist sabbatical. However, in this case, and point in time, new rock acts are dominating the industries attention. If we’re lucky, as fans, the three leading ladies and Word are planning the next big take over of the airwaves.

Either way, for fans of Rachael, Jaci, and Nicole, the 17 song compilations are worthy of evaluation. And in the instance of Nicole’s collection the listening audience is gifted with the addition of two live recordings of favorites “Redeemer” and “Call On Jesus” which have not been released before.

I have collected a sampling of links to past reviews and interviews from Nicole and Rachael. As I began to search our archive I was shocked by the absence of Jaci’s music on our site. However, in our defense we can only cover what is passed our way, and each artist has at times had different publicist with exclusive and inclusive media lists.

Of the three, I have had the pleasure of meeting only Rachael in person. However, I did get the opportunity to interview Nicole over the phone which was a real pleasing and friendly experience. Hopefully the future of Alpha Omega News will be full of new reviews, interviews, and concert photos from Nicole, Rachael, and Jaci.

Download Jaci Velasquez - On My Knees

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2807176448916260545.post-78152024816950709312006-10-16T04:05:00.000-07:002006-10-17T04:16:02.543-07:00Sarah Kelly - Where The Past Meets Today (2006)Artist: Sarah Kelly
Album: Where The Past Meets Today
Format: Audio CD
Bitrate: 320kbps

Track Listing:
01. The mind-blowing combination of a classic rock soundtrack and explosive vocals, reminiscent of 70’s icons like Grace Slick or Janis Joplin, paired with the CD’s spiritual side, make this the best album of the year in my opinion.

The soundtrack is amazing, and producer Mike Clink appears to have pulled some strings to get some non-traditional players on the album. Including Slash on guitar and some more instrumentation by Chris Chaney of Jane’s Addiction. Additionally, the album was recorded outside of the traditional CCM studios of Nashville and instead the work was done in L.A. where the musical environment has a different charge. The changes were noticeable, and the soundtrack stands out in a very positive way. However, the spiritual content of the album does not suffer from being away from the usual structure of CCM.

As quoted in the press materials Kelly states, “A Song is a way to speak, a voice beyond what you can normally say in life. This music gave me voice when I had none, and my prayer is to do the same for others.” Additionally, “My music career is just a means to an end to teach kids how to allow the Lord to speak to them through song. This is an all-consuming passion, and it’s why I have been placed here in this position.”

“Where the Past Meets Today” follows thematically with many of the artists that have influenced Kelly, as it is written deeply from the heart, expressing challenges, pain, exposing life’s most dark and dreadful secrets.

Where the Past Meets Today is a move forward for Sarah Kelly in many respects and a beckoning for further honesty in today’s church. I think you will be fully charged by the music and deeply moved by her spiritual strength in adversity.

Download Sarah Kelly - Where The Past Meets Today

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2807176448916260545.post-27580739530875458742006-10-13T03:50:00.000-07:002006-10-13T04:34:10.342-07:00Hillsong Australia - Forever (2003)Artist: Hillsong Australia
Album: Forever
Format: Audio CD
Bitrate: 192 kbps

Track Listing:
01. I found it pleasant enough, but not compelling listening. I think I may have benefited more from it if the song lyrics had been printed on the sleeve, instead of it being filled with advertisements for various Hillsongs products and events. As it was, I was alternatively trying to remember the words to the ones I knew, and wondering when the tune was going to start on the others. As for the musical style, my wife walked in during my first play through and kept expecting one of the tunes to turn into a Dire Straits number! It's OK I suppose, if you are a Hillsongs (or Dire Straits) fan, but there are more creative and original instrumental albums out there.

Review from Crossrhythms.co.uk

Download Hillsong Australia - Forever

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2807176448916260545.post-11858162512626473512006-10-12T04:34:00.000-07:002006-10-13T08:44:47.461-07:00Justifide - Life Outside the Toybox (2001)Artist: Justifide
Album: Life Outside the Toybox
Format: Audio CD
Bitrate: ??? kbps

Track Listing:
01. Just what the doctor ordered to clear the cobwebs from your
head when you are in the mood to rock hard. Taking cues from P.O.D. while incorporating their own style and flavor of hard music, Justifide scores an impressive debut with Life Outside the Toybox. The band doesn’t just make a lot of noise. The riffs and motifs presented here have “hookability” that combines with some memorably sung (actually shouted or rapped) lyrics that will have you singing/shouting along while involuntarily bobbing or banging your head. Non-headbangers beware; this stuff will turn you into one.

Justifide is comprised of brothers Jason Moncivaiz (lead vocals, drums), Sambo Moncivaiz (bass), and guitarist Joey Avalos, whose crunchy axe chops give the band it’s loud, angst-ridden sound while the Moncivaiz’ lend their songwriting talents.

Top tunes on the disc include “9 Out of 10” with its refrain, “You don’t own me!” and the opener “Change,” which sets the stage for the distorted, angry guitars that dominate each track. Veteran rocker Billy Smiley added produBonus tracks “Escucha” and “Gozo Nuevo” are Spanish versions of “Listen” and “Sweet New Found Joy,” respectively. Think Skillet meets P.O.D. south of the border. If only each of the tunes had an ending worthy of its beginning, they would be stronger contenders. Often a tune ends with random harmonics or feedback, and sometimes seems to drone on. “No Reply” is the notable exception to this weakness, but is schizophrenic is its own way flipping from a ballad-like verse to a screaming chorus and back again. It is still a good tune, and “Why” which follows it is even better a metallic praise song for the new millennium. Just wait ‘til you hear the double kick drums at the end!
Even with its minor shortcomings, Life Outside the Toybox illustrates that Justifide will definitely make a mark on the hard music scene, and gives us hope that all teenage boys don’t aspire to be in a “new millennium pop” boy band.

Review from Tollbooth.org

Download Justifide - Life Outside the Toybox

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2807176448916260545.post-51274132800187465472006-10-11T01:09:00.000-07:002006-10-11T01:37:05.714-07:00Skillet - Comatose (2006)Artist: Skillet
Album: Comatose
Format: Audio CD
Bitrate: VBR

Track Listing:
01. Skillet has never shied away from the ‘ugly’ things in the lives of listeners, Christian and non-Christian alike, and certainly prove themselves to be serious about tackling issues often ignored by the church (Suicide, poverty, self injury, to name a few), in this album.

The albums first single, "Rebirthing," dives right in and starts the record off with plenty of strings. With an intro intended to heighten the listener’s excitement, lead singer John Cooper comes in with a gut-wrenching scream to bring the intro to climax, allowing the music to flow in to the first verse easily. "Rebirthing" gives a great representation of the album and leaves listeners eager to hear the rest.

The following track, "The Last Night" continues to pack a strong punch in the strings department, much to my delight. One of the more lyrically impacting songs, "The Last Night" holds many of the more touching lines on the album. "Look me in the eye so I know you know I’m everywhere you need me to be," perfectly embodies the intensity in the emotion God feels when His children are unsure of where they are with their faith. He wants us to see how serious He is, and this line has led me to examine the solidity of my own faith.

While it’s packed full of gut-wrenching screams and guitar solos, Comatose makes sure to include slower, more reflective songs as well. "Yours To Hold," "The Older I Get," and "Say Goodbye" provide much needed, and perfectly placed breaks as you make your way through the album. With emotional lyrics, and vocals done by both John and Korey Cooper, "Say Goodbye" leaves you with two words in mind: power ballad! While I quickly admit to the song being semi-cliché, it’s definitely a solid song, and certainly draws the listener in to the emotion and desperation of the situation at hand.

One of the most notable songs on the album is the closing track, "Looking For Angels," which is mostly spoken-word. This completely drew me in from the beginning, as the honesty and desperation shown in this track is absolutely remarkable. "Looking For Angels" is very different from things Skillet has done in the past but with lyrics like, "When will we learn that wars, threats, and regrets are the cause and effect of living in fear," you can’t help but realize how much this song hits close to home. This track is not a downer though, quite the opposite. As the song nears its end, it becomes a call to action to change the world in any way you can. "What will you do to help someone along the way? Just a touch, a smile as you turn the other cheek? Pray for your enemies, humble yourself, love’s staring back at me."

The only weak point on the record, in my opinion, is the scarily pop-punk track "Those Nights," a song you’d expect to find on an album of the likes of Hawk Nelson or MEST. This track just seems to drag the album down, losing a touch of musical sophistication that I’ve always prided Skillet in having. The only other complaint is that at times, lyrics can seem a bit overdramatic, for want of a better word. Luckily, that’s a rare occasion and doesn’t take away too much from the record. In all reality, you have to get incredibly critical to find any real fault with Comatose.

As the final track comes to a close, I found myself immediately starting the album back up and still, after many listens, surprised and excited by what awaited me. This is a solid album through and through. A major step musically, as Skillet continues to mature their sound, and overall presentation of their message. If you’re looking for a good, solid album, with a beautiful blend of genius music compositions, poetic lyrics, and passionate vocals - Comatose is it!

Review from Ccmbuzz.com

Download Skillet - Comatose

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2807176448916260545.post-61568977165669903222006-10-10T01:24:00.000-07:002006-10-10T01:52:48.786-07:00Hillsong United - United We Stand (2006)Artist: Hillsong United
Album: United We Stand
Format: Audio CD
Bitrate: 192 kbps

Track Listing:
01. Everything one has come to expect from a United album is here - the live atmosphere, the big arrangements and a dogged insistence in rewriting the same worship song over and over.

One listen to United We Stand confirms it as a predictable successor to previous United efforts. The faster songs are catchy and energetic without managing to sound memorable, while the slower songs range from merely pleasant ("Came to the Rescue") to the excruciatingly drawn out ("Fire Fall Down"). Lyrically, the band never ventures beyond the expected either. The usual worship clichйs abound, as each song on United We Stand involves some variety of their typical "Live for You," "Tell the world about Jesus," and "Jesus, You are beautiful" lyrics.

Chronologically, the album sounds drawn out as well. United We Stand starts off briskly enough, with three energetic live numbers ("The Time Has Come," "Take It All," "From God Above") that prove why this band is a natural favorite among youth. It is not long however, until the album gets bogged down by momentum-robbing slow worship songs that seem unnecessarily placed together. United We Stand's bloated mid-section is capped off by the ten-minute plus "Fire Fall Down," and by the time it finally draws to a close, not even the enthusiastic "Revolution" can pick this album back up.

Hillsong United are not necessarily known for variety between albums and one could argue that their fans would prefer it any other way. There's nothing on United We Stand that we haven't already heard on Look To You or More Than Life. Nothing here is new, yet nothing is missing either. Those who know and love United will no doubt enjoy this, since their favorite worship band has once again delivered a familiar batch of songs that will please more than inspire.

Review from Jesusfreakhideout.com

Download Hillsong United - United We Stand

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2807176448916260545.post-59859545966361637082006-10-09T14:43:00.000-07:002006-10-31T12:01:09.434-08:00Delirious? & Hillsong Australia - Unified Praise (2004)Artist: Delirious?+Hillsong
Album: Unified Praise
Format: Audio CD
Bitrate: 192 kbps

Track Listing:
01. Sixteen months later the outcome of that night is finally revealed. 'Unified:Praise' is the live recording of the 2003 Hillsong conference, in front of 20,000 people at the Sydney SuperDome. The CD contains eleven songs, five from the Hillsong band and six from Delirious?, with a little crossover as the bands shared the stage for a few songs. The DVD version has the same songs, plus a few extras.

Delirious? and Hillsong may seem like a strange combination, and I'll admit to being slightly sceptical about the idea when I first heard about it. But despite that, this album contains much to excite both sets of fans.

When you place the DVD in your player, a square box parcel appears on screen, with "This Way UP" written on it's side. At first this seems a little strange and unrelated, until you consider the title of the CD and DVD: 'Unified:Praise'. Take the initials of the title and you get the word UP. The DVD menu and graphics all play on the 'UP' abbreviation, with the main menu being the inside of an elevator, with the doors shut, complete with annoying elevator music in the background. Along the side of the elevator are the buttons for each 'floor', which are the Menu Options. You are given five options: Play, Songs, Bits, Info, Setup. When you select one of the 'floors', the elevator doors slide open as the option loads.

'Setup' allows you to choose the Audio and Subtitle settings, whilst 'Info' is simply a screen of static text saying: "During Hillsong Conference 2003, Delirious? combined with Darlene Zschech and the Hillsong team to record this project. It was an incredible night, with over 20,000 worshippers packing the Sydney SuperDome, praising God with one Voice". You have to wonder why they bothered to include this screen in the DVD, especially since those exact words are printed on the DVD's back cover.

The 'Bits' option from the Menu is a seven and a half minute behind-the-scenes documentary, containing a montage of video clips and shots from the rehearsals and sound check. It also has snippets of interviews with various people, such as Tim and Stew from Delirious? and Darlene Zschech. The short documentary also shows people talking to camera about planning the joint Hillsong and Delirious? project. We see Martin taking in the scene as the crowd arrives at the venue, and various other clips of backstage events. It's an entertaining piece of film, but with clearly enough footage to make a full hour long documentary is seems a shame that they tried to squeeze it all into such a short effort.

The remaining two options on the DVD menu, 'Play' and 'Songs', take you into the feature presentation. You can choose to 'Play' the entire concert, or skip straight to a specific 'song'.

The first half of the concert has the Hillsong team and Darlene on stage to lead the crowd in several songs. The Sydney SuperDome shows itself to be a top class venue, with a huge sea of people making up the crowd. The main interest for Delirious? fans comes later, when Delirious? take to the stage, but don't be fooled into thinking that 'I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever' is a full-on Delirious? performance. Despite being a Delirious? song it occurs during the Hillsong part of the concert. Martin and Tim join Hillsong and Darlene on stage to perform the track, but it is very much a Hillsong version, sung much slower than Delirious? would normally do so. In fact, listening to this track on the CD you wouldn't even know that Delirious? were involved, until the final minute of the song where Martin finally gets a chance to take over the vocals from Darlene.

Through out the concert the Hillsong Choir, consisting of perhaps fifty singers all dressed in black, stand in a raised section at the back of the stage. They join in with the songs at various points, providing an added depth to the music. As 'I Could Sing' nears an end, they join in behind Martin and Darlene. On the tracklisting for both the CD and DVD it lists the song as "I Could Sing Of Your Love Forever / God's Romance". This is slightly misleading, as in fact the song "God's Romance" doesn't appear in it's entirety, it's just one repeated line "Holy Is The Lord" taken from "God's Romance" that is sung at the end of "I Could Sing".

A few tracks later, the Delirious? concert starts properly as they appear on stage through the dim blue light to launch into a staggering ten minute rendition of 'Did You Feel The Mountains Tremble?'. Announcing the song Martin calls out ""All around the world the mountains are still trembling", and then the lights and guitars kick in to full effect. For a live album you'd expect to hear a bit more of the crowd, but for most of the time all you can hear in the background is the Hillsong Choir accompanying Delirious? Whilst this sounds good, it does loose some of the live 'feel' of the concert. Stu excels with his guitar and as the song stretches on Martin leads the crowd into "Dance in the river".

From here on, the CD and DVD differ slightly. Next up for the DVD is the added bonus of 'My Glorious', a song which doesn't appear on the CD at all. Whilst the remaining songs on the CD and DVD are the same, the track order differs for some strange reason. On the DVD 'My Glorious' starts with some arty camera work, a quick sequence of changing shots, blurring in and out of focus, all perfectly synchronised with the music. As this is the only song using this type of effect it seems out of keeping with the rest of the DVD, but it does work well for 'My Glorious'. The stage is flooded with smoke and lights, and a fabulous StuG guitar solo make this one of the highlights of the DVD. Martin has the crowd singing "Glory, Glory, Send Your Glory" as the song nears an end.

Next on the DVD is 'Majesty', and again the crowd are very low in the sound mix. For the most part, the choir drowns out any singing from the crowd, but admittedly the choir does sound superb. Clearly Delirious? thought so to, as they included the Hillsong choir singing this very song on their 'World Service' album. The bass rings out very clearly and Martin's singing is confident through out. The wide angled shots give a great view of the impressive arena with its high ceiling and large capacity. Close up shots of the crowd singing with hands raised add to the spine-tingling atmosphere.

'What A Friend I've Found' is next, with Darlene joining Martin on stage. The songs starts quietly with an acoustic feel as Martin sings and plays his guitar and Darlene sings the second verse. The addition of a female voice complimenting well with Martin's own vocals. Gradually the drums and guitars join in as the song starts to build momentum, and finally the choir joins in too. Another nice feature of the DVD is that during 'What A Friend' you have the choice of choosing from any one of eight different camera angles. Taking on the role of 'director' yourself can be fun as you choose from cameras at the front, side, back, above on a crane, or in the crowd. Some of the stage cameras reveal technicians crawling around stage, and the cameraman's feet, adding to the entertainment!

The performance of 'Rain Down' is absolutely stunning, easily the best track on the album. Martin puts down his guitar to give himself the freedom to jump around and dance across the stage. The entire crowd seem to join him in jumping in time to the song. The band's performance is perfect, with guitars, bass, drums and keyboard all mixed together supremely, making an amazing blend of music. Another strange difference between the CD and DVD is that the CD version of 'Rain Down' includes the "Glory, Glory, Send Your Glory" ending that appeared on the DVD version of 'My Glorious'.

Both CD and DVD end with 'History Maker', where finally the crowd are audible in the mix, and a truly live feeling is created. The song is an excellent finale to the concert, with Martin calling his "fellow History Makers" onto stage half way through. The Hillsong band and Darlene come back to make the stage very crowded indeed. With an unimaginable number of guitarists now on stage, the song continues. Speaking to the crowd, Martin sounds emotional as he quotes from Psalm 24. The credits role on the DVD, bringing the song to an end slightly earlier than you might hope. The CD of course doesn't suffer from this problem, and the music continues into a full ending featuring the singing of "Holy Is The Lord" and "My heart burns for you".

Overall, the production of the CD and DVD is of a very high standard, but perhaps let down in a few places but small things like the lack of crowd 'feedback' and not making full use of DVD 'extras'. Who will the album appeal to? Well clearly dedicated Delirious? fans will be anxious to get hold of a rare DVD Delirious? appearance, and Hillsong fans will also be attracted by the line up. In terms of what this album provides that other Delirious? live albums haven't had before, you're only left with 'Rain Down' and 'Majesty', which might put some fans off. However the version of 'Rain Down' on 'Unified:Praise' is well worth checking out, and if you go for the DVD, 'My Glorious' also stands out as a must-see track. Delirious? fans might think that there isn't enough 'Delirious?' on the album, but then it is meant to be a combined album between Hillsong and Delirious?

The only time the two bands really combine on a song is during 'I Could Sing', with Hillsong clearly taking the lead on that one. It is definitely an album of two halves, with the different styles each taking their own turn. Hillsong and Darlene lead the crowd in worship, whilst Delirious? perform a concert for the crowd. That is the difference between the two bands and each style has it's own place and works well because each band knows it's strength and plays to it.

Review from Delirious.org.uk

Download Delirious?+Hillsong - Unified Praise

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2807176448916260545.post-85524897871193843712006-10-08T14:25:00.000-07:002006-10-09T14:42:56.780-07:00Delirious? - The Mission Bell (2005)Artist: Delirious?
Album: The Mission Bell
Format: Audio CD
Bitrate: 320 kbps

Track Listing:
01. If their previous album 'World Service' was intended to circle the globe with its message, 'The Mission Bell' continues that theme as the band prepare to "Ring the mission bell and storm the gates of hell" [Paint The Town Red]. Pleasing everyone might be 'Mission:Impossible', but with 'The Mission Bell' Delirious? truly reach out an arm and place it firmly around your shoulders with a finely balanced mix of the softly soothing and the raucously rocking. To put it another way, whether your preference is for rock, pop, ballad or worship, you'll find it all crafted into these twelve songs:

Stronger
"We're getting closer every day, chasing the dreams that heaven gave. Hallelujah here we come"
'Stronger' starts with an eerie string vibration reminiscent of 'Jesus Blood' followed by a simple guitar strum and Martin's voice. The drums join in gently building to a warm melody with trademark guitar, proving from the very first track that Delirious? are back in style. As the chorus takes off, an array of sounds make up the backing track, busy but without being cluttered. As Martin repeats the line "Oh I love you" a choir subtly starts to rise in the background. A well worked opener.

Now Is The Time
"The winds are blowing through again, so we must follow, the people daring to believe, we could change tomorrow."
This song has been re-recorded since it originally appeared on a promo CD. Originally it had a fairly slow tempo, but it has now been vastly improved by increasing they rhythm and recording some fantastic pure sounding guitars and drums that open the track. Martin's smoothly sung vocals kick in before the drums increase in intensity and the voice grows in strength, launching into the chorus: "Now is the time for us to shine". The pounding bass and well played keyboard and guitar riffs through out are fantastic. Later the song seamlessly moves into a much faster bridge, "Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus", accompanied by a choir in the background. Martin then sings a series of urgent sounding lines as the song threatens to take off, followed by a superb guitar solo lasting a full 30 seconds.

Solid Rock
"There's a tower on a hill, it's always strong it will never shake, it was standing there before the world began"
With a country-fied cowboy style guitar twang that is instantly pleasing to the ear, this song slithers along with an almost blues style to it. The tempo is one of a slow march, until the strongly voiced chorus takes off. "On Christ the solid rock we will stand, all other ground is sinking ground" The slightly distorted almost slow-rap style bridge follows, sung by guest vocalist TOBYMAC. Foot tapping is irresistible and you'll want to join in with Stew as he gets wild with the drums. 'Solid Rock' is one of the highlights of the album and is near perfection.

All This Time
"All this time since the day I was born, I've never known a time like this. I don't want to let you down"
Martin and Stu share the softly sung vocals. Stu's lines are exceptionally deep and almost electronically sounding at times. It strolls along on a gentle level until the echoing words of "All this time" in the chorus release the song to its faster paced latter half. If the first half was slow, the second half is not so much fast, but alive. The chorus begs to be sung along to and the verses include wonderful lines such as "I can captivate an army but I can't control myself". You can practically visualise Stu stepping on the distortion pedal and coaxing his guitar into life. The song then returns to a more gentle feel, repeating the chorus line over and over but with such a beautiful bass, guitar and keyboard combination that the song refuses to let you lose interest.

Miracle Maker
"Holy You are Holy, Saviour, Healer, I'm standing at the feet of the Miracle Maker"
Beautifully moving piano and hushed vocals that are raw with emotion announce the start of this musical masterpiece. 'Miracle Maker' is a ballad created the way that only Delirious? can. Almost without you noticing the song suddenly turns into a loud rock track crying out to the Lord. If Charles Wesley had composed rock and roll songs, this is what it would have sounded like. It is without doubt stunning, especially when the soaring guitars give way to the orchestral strings and opera style choir. There is a 'goose bump' moment as Stu unleashes his electric guitar. Investigate meets Mountains High - simply incredible.

Here I am Send Me
"Let me hear a voice saying 'Who shall I send?', I'll say send me Lord I'll follow You to the end."
This song sets out its stall from the start. Stu opens the singing with fast paced vocals asking God to send a vision like He did to Isaiah and Ezekiel. The words read like a 'who's who' of the bible. In a good-cop/bad-cop technique the singing swaps to Martin for the lighter vocals in the chorus; "Here I am send me". Backed throughout by punchy guitars and rocking drums, half way through it feels like the song is about to explode. Near the end a pounding heart beat accompanies Martin as he continues to sing the chorus.

Fires Burn
"Jesus won't you take us home? Home is where the heart is"
Beautifully played piano and jungle style drums give this song a gentleness, enhanced by Martin's exquisitely sung lines. The centrepiece is an uplifting chorus which is both simple and catchy. A change in direction occurs when the mixture of guitar and drums is joined by quickly played strings. This is a track the feels much shorter than it is - a clear indication of its ability to consume the listener.

Our God Reigns
"A hundred million faces staring at the sky wondering if this HIV would ever pass them by"
This song's title might sound like a well known hymn, but don't expect this to be a medley of cover versions. Perhaps the band turned on the TV news when they sat down to write this song, including as many worldly tragedies as they could. Not skirting around controversy they sing about genocide, dieing babies and a "modern day disgrace". Martin sings lines such as "but still my Chinese take away could pay for someone's drugs" and "Nip and tuck if you have the bucks". The defiant chorus says "Our God reigns. forever Your kingdom reigns", standing out against the sins of earth. "God didn't screw up when He made you" Martin tells us. Strings and ebow are allowed extensive freedom in the middle of the song and anger is evident in Martin's voice as he ponders the harsh truth of reality. A notable strength is provided by the choir towards the end.

Love Is A Miracle
"You've given me everything, Love of my life. Forever I'll sing that love is a miracle"
Moody vocals backed by an equally moody tune, make way for the big gospel choir sound during the chorus; "Love is a miracle, Your mercy catches me when I fall, Love is such a miracle". Towards the end there's even a stereotypical 'preacher man' style sermon extract! It's the weakest track on the album, but is saved by the excellence of the underlying musical tone.

Paint The Town Red
"You know I feel our city's gonna shake now. And we hear you call every woman and man, "Ring the mission bell" and storm the gates of hell."
Part punk-rock, part brit-pop, 'Paint The Town Red' is sung with an urgency and is unlike any song Delirious? has ever performed before. The almost boisterous chorus of "ohh here we come, here we come, here we come" rings out like a football chant. The song comes to a standstill as a metallic guitar strums, before the ohh's return in the background as the screaming guitar continues. By far the shortest song on the album, it buzzes around your head all day long. "Ring ring ring ring the mission bell. Sing sing sing we've got a story to tell" shouts Martin as if he is hyperventilating.

Take Off My Shoes
"Why did You call? Why did You wait, for someone so guilty someone so fake?"
Opening with echoing simple guitar notes then a gentle beat and slowly played piano, there is nearly a full minute introduction before Martin starts to sing. This is a modern day hymn with a stunning simplicity. "So hold me, blow all the pride from my bones with Your fire" calls Martin in the chorus. This song is almost a minute longer than any other track, allowing for a Delirious? 'jamming moment' when guitar blends with drums, bass melts into keys and Martin's smoothly uttered words create a moment to marvel.

I'll See You
"I see You when the wind blows, running without fear. Born to rest in your Father's arms."
A simple acoustic song, combining the styles of Majesty and What A Friend, with an early U2 flavour added in for good measure. A faintly sung female voice gives a mellow Enya feel to the song as it gently bringing the album to a close.

Synopsis
Is it the best Delirious? album yet? It's difficult to say. It is incomparable to the likes of King of Fools, Mezzamorphis or Glo. Those albums were landmarks of their day, but The Mission Bell is set in a different time and demonstrates a different set of skills. Maturity oozes from every pore on this album. In 2001 Delirious? declared that their Audiolesson was Over, but with The Mission Bell they have truly graduated. The album plays to every strength the band has developed over the past decade together. With it's great use of strings and choirs, trademark guitars, bass and roaring drums and a stronger emphasis on the piano, this is a whole new side to Delirious? that shows progression to a greater level. Martin and Stu's vocals are the finest yet. Stand out tracks are probably Solid Rock, Miracle Maker and Here I Am Send Me, but All This Time and Fires Burn are not far behind. In the opening song, Delirious? sing "We're getting stronger every day" and they're not wrong.

Review from Delirious.org.uk

Download Delirious? - The Mission Bell

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2807176448916260545.post-10082661115548174042006-10-07T14:59:00.000-07:002006-10-31T12:02:27.582-08:00Hillsong London - Shout God's Fame (2004)Artist: Hillsong London
Album: Shout God's Fame
Format: Audio CD
Bitrate: ???

Track Listing:
01. King of Majesty

Album Review

This Hillsong London CD, "Shout God's Fame," has an energizing, rocking, shout-it-from-the-roof-top style that captures the live aspect of worship, praise and proclamation.

This is the first live album from Hillsong Church London was recorded at the Mermaid Theatre. "Shout God's Fame" CD features songs that evoke a corporate re-commitment, stirring action and response in the body of Christ. Songs like track 7, "I Will Go," remind believers of our call to the great commission given by Jesus. Song 8, a redo of the Delirious? classic, follows with the affirmation that we."Want to be History Makers in this land.." and to take action to make a difference. Then, "Here I Am" leads believers through singing a prayer of personalized offering to live our life as servants of Jesus Christ. Hillsong London's progression of songs guides worshippers to a place of personal and corporate commitment to the lordship of Jesus.

Musically, there is some variation. The second song, "Gonna Be All-Right," was a bit lengthy and had sort of a Brady Bunch feel. "I Will Go" is played in a minor key and has great potential for adding Latin rhythm instruments.

What comes across immediately is that the writers and musicians have their fingers firmly on the British teen pop pulse and as a result 'Shout God's Fame' sounds as though it has been marketed for this age group. For example, the title track is very much in the vein of guitar-driven pop that the likes of Busted dish up and there is more than a touch of Robbie Williams' "Rock DJ" in the chorus of "Gonna Be All Right"! These similarities aside, the material here is of good quality and is lifted by top class musicianship. Amongst the highlights are "You Are My Rock" - just for the sheer power of the delivery - and the Latin American "I Will Go" complete with chanting vocals and a sweet but all too short piano solo. Most of the songs are originals but Martin Smith's "History Maker" makes a rather predictable but well-presented appearance.

"Shout God's Fame" is an excellent worship resource tool and a fresh call to the body of Christ for recommitment.

Review was compound from Worshipmusic.com and Crossrhythms.co.uk

Download Hillsong [London] - Shout God's Fame

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2807176448916260545.post-85981951529643278602006-10-06T01:43:00.000-07:002006-10-06T15:35:06.864-07:00Disciple - Disciple (2005)
Artist: Disciple
Album: Disciple

Format: Audio CD
Bitrate: 160 kbps

Track Listing:

01. The band's previous efforts of This Might Sting a Little, By God, and Back Again gave a new spin on the Christian metal scene. While their new self-titled album has similar elements from Back Again, they have taken a more direct approach with a smoother, more melodic sound. Some fans of their heavier material might need a couple of listens to enjoy it, but it has plenty of staying power that should please Disciple fans both old and new. Having just seen them recently in concert for the first time ever, it gave me a chance to experience the true passion and raw intensity of a Disciple show.Their self-titled project begins with the aptly titled "The Wait is Over," which is sort of a call-to-arms track with the chorus boasting, "We've been waiting so long, for this moment of all our lives, let it pour out." The melodies flow perfectly in many of the album's songs, such as "Stripped Away", "Go Ahead", and "Backstabber". The lyrical content is equally important as "Shinedown" has frontman Kevin Young singing, "Shine down on me if You're the One who loved me before." Not surprising is the fact that even the album's lighter moments are true and honest worship, especially the ballad "Beautiful." The biggest highlights on Disciple would have to be the songs "Rise Up" and "All We Have," which not only have thought-provoking messages, but also contain solid alterna-rock hooks that make it impossible not to give them additional listens just for the arrangements alone. There's no doubt that many emotions are poured out in several of the tracks with heart-felt screams and amazingly polished vocal talent.
One constant factor, as with any Disciple album, is that the band never fails to express their faith and dedication to God throughout a great majority of their songs. If you have yet to see them on the Rise Up Tour, you're missing out because Disciple packs a ton of energy into any concert they are a part of, regardless of how long or short a set they perform.

Disciple's self-titled effort is one of the most anticipated releases of the Summer and is a remarkable stepping stone in the continued maturity of a long-standing veteran hard rock band.

Reviews from Jesusfreakhideout.com

Download Disciple - Disciple

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2807176448916260545.post-76678110997192060312006-10-05T05:04:00.000-07:002006-10-09T06:29:28.402-07:00Hillsong Australia - Mighty To Save (2006)Artist: Hillsong Australia
Album: Mighty To Save
Format: Audio CD
Bitrate: 192 kbps

Track Listing:
01. Inevitably, the pivot of the live recording is the wonderful singing and direction of Darlene Zschech, whose presence is everywhere to be seen and heard. But what a team! And what a gathering!
The massed ranks of expectant worshippers offer their sacrifice of praise in wave after wave, with alternating soloists and augmented band playing their hearts out for the lens. From spiky dance songs to tear-inducing prayers, the music simply pours over you track on track, with plenty of high roving panoramas and intimate close-ups to keep you glued. The team have again set the standard in "captured" live worship - everyone in the auditorium deeply in thrall to the Holy Spirit at work, with no sense of intrusion.
It is the kind of viewing which requires a prepared mind (and heart) as behind-the-scenes come to life, the Scriptures unfold, the personal stories get aired (mostly on the second CD of special features) and the music sweeps us up into being there. There is no doubt that Hillsong's influence on contemporary praise music sets it apart as the voice of worship across all generations, harnessing the very best in music, film production and graphics with consummate skill and - most importantly - sensitivity to the event . We get a glimpse of their range in the subtitles - English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Bahsa Indonesian, traditional Chinese, modern Chinese, Japanese, Korean (and occasionally, Australian!). Before long, these songs will be a part of your own weekly offering. This package rises way above entertainment.

Review from Crossrhythms.co.uk

Download Hillsong Australia - Mighty To Save

LogicForcehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09650366123077014660noreply@blogger.com0
