Mute Math’s Reset EP was a staple for those into a totally energizing, get on your feet musical experience, and Mute Math’s self titled debut LP is no exception. If you’re lucky enough to get a copy at their nationwide sold out shows or online, you’re mp3 player and stereo will feel more than privileged. The cover art boasts a band heavily involved in instrumentation, the focus is on their skill, not staring blankly at the camera trying to be poster boys for the next cover of NME. Paul Meany orchestrates the band by tying every sound together with his whisp-laden vocals.
The band has proposed classic moments on such tracks as “Chaos”, “Typical”, and “Noticed” with catchy anthem-like lyrics and electro samples mixed with light rapid drum movements provided by Darren King with the most excellent trademark of duct taping his headphones to his head during performances. "Obsolete" also stands out with an incredible jazz infused hook on the bass that melts in your mouth over and over again. Mute Math make melodies that mean something, make ballad worthy lyrics worth listening to for even the toughest guy or girl in the audience, and provide a unique raw appeal that the industry as a whole has been after for a long time. Mute Math are definitely a band worth watching, and possess music worth repeating to bring more pep to an otherwise stagnant day.
